I am home.  Home is where I am.  It is nice.  It is great.  It is rainy, it is cold, but I couldn't be happier.  I had a great time in Hawaii.  Spent nearly 3 1/2 weeks posted up on the North Shore working on a couple of different projects including an ad campaign for Dragon Eyewear, Bloomingdales, and editorial work for Surfer.  It was a busy couple of weeks of shooting, but I had a blast doing it. Now it is time to sit down and edit all the work I shot from Hawaii.  First stop this morning was dropping off the film from the trip and going through the digital images one by one...Above are a couple snapshots from the trip that caught my attention that are slightly off from what the mags may be looking for, but that doesn't mean there isn't something to them that catches my attention and share my view of the North Shore 2010.

Korduroy.tv web interview

My friend Cyrus Sutton runs this cool blog called Korduroy TV.  It's kind of like an all around do it yourself kind of blog with how-tos, the latest shred clips, and interviews.  He asked me to do an interview with him and I said yes.  He has made some really great films in the past so I was stoked to be a part of it.  We filmed this at my house as I was packing to go to Hawaii that night...I kind of just rambled on and hopefully I don't sound like too much of a jackass, but thought Cyrus did a great job with the editing of my 40 minute ramblings...

Hawai(internetless)

I escaped the cold and rain of California to try my luck at this winters season in Hawaii.  Since I've been here the waves have been big, small, flat, medium, big, windy, calm, clear, and brown.  Woke up to thunder, lightning, rain, and flooding.  With no hopes of shooting any sort of action images in this weather, I went to town, dropped my friends and girlfriend off at the airport to go home, ate the best Mexican food on the island, checked the waves on the way home, shot a portrait/lifestyle shoot for Dragon sunglasses, pretty happy how it came out and watched Mick Fanning surf OTW with 2 other people out during one of the most amazing sunsets I have seen in Hawaii.  Although the sun never broke through, it lit the clouds up to a beautiful range of pinks, yellows, and blues.

LA TIMES: chasing the swell

The team at the LA times just finished up and put together a short film titled "Chasing the Swell."  They did a great job filming and putting it together over last winters El Nino winter.  They used a couple of my photos inside the film from Mavericks talking about the session that went down during the contest this year.  Here is one of the photos of Rusty Long pulling into a massive tube at Mavericks before the contest started.  Definitely take some time out of your day to watch this, I've seen it quite a few times and gets me more pumped than ever for t next big swell!!!

Hasselblad snapshots

Below is a series of 6 photos I shot on my Hasselblad from my last trip to Half Moon Bay with Derek Dunfee and from New York last September.  I'm kind of a photo nerd and froth out on always shooting in different mediums and formats dependant on the situation..It's not so great for the simplistic approach or keeping my camera bag light, but whats a couple extra lb's on your back when each moment is so unique to itself.  On the trip to Half moon bay I brought a digital camera for the action, a hasselblad for lineups, lifestyle, and whatever else crossed our paths and a pocket point and shoot for those inbetween moments..seems like a lot, but at the very least it keeps me entertained and keeps me shooting...The photos from NY were taken on our last day as Jenna and I were walking around the town seeing the city...Theres something I find interesting about the film I get back and what I choose to shoot when there's only 12 images in a roll...

Kelly Slater 10x World Champ Poster!!!

Earlier in the year I did a two part job for Quiksilver for there Spring 2011 swimsuit ad campaign.  The first shoot has yet to be released but the second one just came out!  Here is one of the images being used to celebrate Kelly Slaters 10th World Title..They chose this image to be the headline image of his 10th Championship World Title!!! I will upload more as I get the ok to do so.  I owe a big thank you and CONGRATULATIONS to Kelly and the team at Quiksilver for choosing me to do the shoot (Crawley, Jamie, and Mike) along with Sandrine and Emily at Nouvelle Vague for making it happen!

new dragon ad of Ace Buchan in Australia

The kind folk at Dragon just sent me a screengrab of the new ad of Ace Buchan that went to print in the Australian Surf mags.  It was taken in the back wearhouse of the Dragon Offices while Ace was in town for a contest.
