Shane Dorian for Surfer Magazine

Shane Dorian Kona, Hawaii

Pacific Beach

One of the things I love about film is getting the film back.  You never know what you are going to get sometimes.  This shot was taken over a month ago in my halfframe camera, but I just got the film back a couple days ago.  It was taken on a warm sunny day when my girlfriend and I rode our bikes from OB to PB and back.  I saw this guys setup on the beach and couldn't resist to snap a sly shot or two...

New York

driving over the Brooklyn Bridge from Long Island to Manhattan I looked out the window to see the New York skyline for the first time and this endless graveyard leading to it.

Montauk Duct Tape Invitational

I was invited by Joel Tudor and friends at Vans to come over and shoot the second in a series of three longboard events.  I don't usually shoot contests, but this one was rad.  It is an invite only, 16 surfers, all friends, in New York, surfing, skating and live shows.  I owe a big thank you to Vans and Joel for the invite and putting me up in a rad hotel room and getting a firsthand look at the edge of LongIsland and a frontrow seat to Mos Def and Public Enemy!!!  Surfer Magazine did a quick write up on the event you can see on the link below. Look for more images to come in the magazine and once I get the film back too!

more wanderings with my film camera

As great as digital is and for so many reasons it makes my life easier, I can't help but go back to using my film cameras.  I really enjoy the look, feel, and overall ease of use.  Sure, sometimes the film takes a few weeks to get developed or the film back leaks light, or a double exposure happens on accident, but it's these spontaneous moments of time captured on film that keep it exciting and fresh.  Below are a few more scans of some film I have shot over the past month.  The digital images are great for clients when you have a specified timeline/deadline and need to ensure you nailed it.  But for shooting on the side and capturing moments off the clock, I wouldn't think of any other medium but film...Enjoy!
